Confluence is a multi-platform collaborative project exploring the theme of locality in America… GLocal experiences of ritual, relationships, and restrictions. This exploration is a collaboration by students from four universities: The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Tulane University, The College of New Jersey, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The presentation of this collectively explored content includes websites, single channel videos, a mobile app, radio and podcast broadcasts, multi-media performances, and a symposium and resulting scholarly publication.
This app is an Artist Book, created by students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, that interprets local media portraits in Carbondale, Illinois, created by students at the Souther Illinois University Carbondale.
The book is divided into three sections:
I. Other Spaces
Other Spaces captures the elegant, detailed simplicity of our home and hopes to illuminate the specificity of personal, regional, and experiential visualization. It is important to showcase the essence of the Southern Illinois environmental reality. It is a exercise in conceptualizing our microcosm for an extended audience.
II. Utopias
Demonstrated ways our communities interact with the natural landscape of our region.
III. Walking in the City
A brief introduction to the people of our neighborhoods, a sense of who they are and their experiences here.
